Preliminary Findings
Validity: Replication of the related typical findings
1. We collected texts on experiences regarding relationships break-up, and part-time job from Mainland China. Thirty texts for each topic were collected from Internet. These texts were analyzed by the simplified Chinese LIWC and compared with each other. Results corresponded with previous related studies. That is, texts from broke-up experience showed more first personal pronoun, negative emotion words, whereas texts from part-time job showed more work words, achievement words, and money words.
2. Gender differences were also compared with yet another independently sampled blogs to examine the typically found gender differences in language use. Data were collected from 100 personal weibo. Both genders contributed equal sample units. Results were mostly consistent with previous findings. Men tended to use words to convey information and impersonal topics. In contrast, women used more words related to psychological and social processes.
3. Text files from depression patients in China from blogs were collected and analyzed. The average tag rate is over 80%. Compared to the tag rates around .85 in Taiwan, we found it to be rather satisfactory.
